Behind its seaside charisma, beautiful beaches and seafood restaurants, Newquay has a cultural side. Fine art galleries are filled to the brim with paintings of coastal scenery and art inspired by nearby areas. The Lane Theatre presents comedy plays all throughout summer. Newquay Zoo is another popular choice for families and there are several stately homes worth visiting.
Newquay is renowned for its surfing culture and is even referred to by many as the capital of British surfing. It’s famous for the Boardmasters surfing championships, held at Fistral Beach each August. The event attracts competitors from all over the world, as well as music fans who come to watch the live acts.
Another fun-filled festival which takes place annually in Newquay is the Newquay Fish Festival. Every September, the Newquay Harbour comes alive with cookery demonstrations from head chefs, live music performances and an array of stalls and eateries that line the harbour wall! As well as sampling some fresh fish, make sure you try a traditional Cornish pasty.
